lol Jesus Montero won't be playing catcher when he gets to the majors, and the other prospects aren't even in the yankees top 20 prospect list. Montero is probably their #1 hitting prospect, but it wouldn't be the end of the world. We don't need another 1st basemen anytime in the near future.

Yankees have a lot of depth in their farm system at the catcher position, and Cervelli is holing up just fine as a backup to Posada.

This trade wouldn't hurt the Yankees long term in any way, especially if they keep Lee once he hits free agency.

Plus it opens up the opportunity for the Yankees to possibly trade Vazquez for another bat.

Don't let your Boston bitterness get in the way of common sense rookie.

yea but he's your best prospect at catcher and that's a tough spot to fill. Posada's days are nearly over. Maybe Cervelli is decent (i don't really know much about him) but Montero imo is someone you don't want to give up so you can have a great starting pitcher you don't really need who's going to be a free agent at the end of the season.

o snap doesn't matter, looks like yankees r walking away from the deal

"2:57pm: The Mariners didn't accept the Yankees' offer of Montero, Adams and a third prospect, so the Yankees may walk away from the discussions, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com (via Twitter)."

papa, Rangers will be fine without Lee. They don't need to stray away from the path they're on. Let the homegrown talent take over.

Yeah but if they can get Lee they are instant legit contenders...and if it only costs them say Salty, Chris Davis and a few lower level prospects might not be a bad deal.

This whole bankruptcy thing is just annoying...fcking hate Hicks

Are they really contenders with Lee? They have never won a playoff series; maybe not even a playoff game.

I've heard Rangers pitchers are in the offer too, including Smoak... like Holland and Beaven. It's just too much to give up for a chance to maybe win.

Yea what sucks about a team like the Rangers investing prospects in a pitcher for half a season, is that they stand no chance in signing him when he becomes a free agent. It's a risky proposition for a Rangers team that is trying to build up arms and prospects to rebuild itself.

Rangers have some solid young pitchers, but adding Lee alone isn't going to give them the depth they need to make a deep playoff run if they make it there.

Right... They just need to stay the course. Especially with the ownership situation where they can't go out and outbid for anyone to play here.

Smoak (1b), Beavan (rhp), Matt Lawson (rhp), and Josh Luecke (inf)

I think I'm ok with the deal. Smoak is going to be great in the next few years though; Beavan too. Never heard of Lawson and Luecke.

As long as the Rangers still have Holland, Scheppers, Perez, and Beltre... I'm happy.

sry when you roll w/ jon heyman and joel sherman that's how shit goes down

i'll change 'traded' to 'signed' during free agency and bump it tho so it should work out in the end

good deal for Texas, now they need to make the m0st out of it

p.s. i'm glad he got traded today so we don't have to play against him tonight xD

i've never liked the idea of giving up so many prospects for one player for half a season...plus u still gotta pay the guy half his salary which is quite a lot. One rlly good prospect and one average/good prospect sure, but nothin more than that. maybe being a twins fan for so long has worn on me idk

we gave up smoak who has upside but hasn't proven anything yet (Alex Gordon had upside at one point too) for a legit chance at contending for a pennant....awesome deal for the Rangers.

This thread was great memories. Funny to see how things have played out over the last few years. Maybe the Rangers will lose the World Series again this year after being one strike away...

This year we're injury riddled but within the next five years I expect to make the playoffs and probably win the World Series. Not lose it after being a strike away. Lots of teams go through non successful years (See Texas Rangers from 1972 - 1995) but they get themselves out of it, just like the Rangers did. Its just too bad this year the Rangers won't win the division because of Mike Trout. He's coming to get you!!

If you actually watch him pitch, he's not the same. He looks terrible out there. Sure, our offense is pathetic, but he's part of the reason why we suck this year.

Another problem is that they aren't pulling him earlier when he's having a shit game. Our relief has been pathetic as well. If it wasn't for Hamels, we'd be at the bottom of the NL right now.

I have a feeling he'd pitch better if he went back to an AL team that's in contention. He's been too good for too long to just suddenly lose it. Pitchers are pretty quirky and get thrown off by the dumbest shit. He might just not be enjoying it there. Could be nursing an unreported injury but I think he'd speak up about it with where they are in the standings.

Pretty much. He seems like he's been different, mentally. I remember seeing him tweak his arm a few times, but never gave it much thought. I have a feeling he'll have surprise surgery during the offseason.
