Basically, I've been getting stupid lag all of a sudden when people in my house stream video, which hasn't ever been a problem since last week. We're paying for Cox's highest package, and they're gonna be like well when people in your house are doing other shit, your connection is gonna suffer etc.

It's stupid, suddenly my ping is jumping above 999 in games like HoN or Bf4, only happens when people in my household are using the internet.

But we used to be able to stream 5 videos on 5 different devices at once, and I could still play games without any problems. Now, one stream is going, and I can't do shit. Sometimes even when no one is streaming ping jumps way beyond.

As far as troubleshooting the issue myself, I'm tempted to replace the modem, I've updated the firmware on my router, reaffixed all the connections. Guhhhhhh.

Have you had a chance to see if the lag occurs when you're directly connected to the modem and not connected through the router?

If you can do other things at once, you should be able to game. I had an issue with lag at some point and you just have to be unrelenting. You have to absolutely make them send out a tech. Try to do all the troubleshooting with them on the phone but make sure the call ends with having a tech come out.

If you continue to have the problem, you need to stay on them about it. They will keep sending out techs... the thing is, for the entire period you are reporting problems starting on the first day a tech comes out until the issue is resolved, they'll refund you what you've been paying in full every month if you ask.

I got like 4 months internet free like 10 years ago when I was having major packetloss in GB only but everything else was fine.

Not sure, called them, they saw that my equipment was dropping out, but they thought it was on my end more than their end (of course). Going directly into the modem, I didn't have a problem, but now after that call, all of a sudden, my router seems to be working properly even though I just submitted an RMA request to ASUS and borrowed others routers.

Gonna be doing some more troubleshooting over the weekend, trying to stress test the shit out of it to make sure it's not gonna do it again.

My theory is that somehow they fucked up maintenance in my area the last time they did it, and after I reported it, somehow it gets fixed? But without taking responsibility.

Otherwise, how do you explain the router having a drop off for over a week and a half and then all of a sudden working just fine?

Very often the phone techs don't know what the line techs are doing, or have done...unfortunately.

Fortunately it seems like things might be better though; at least for now. ;)
