So remember a while back when my displays would shut off and then crash my computer? I downgraded to windows 8.1, and the problem still exists. It's happened after nvidia's 353 drivers, I google shit, people have somewhat of the same issue and it never gets fully resolved.

I think there are multiple things working against me, and there are a few problems I need to figure out:

A. The color temperatures between my monitors (I've tested 4 now) are vastly different, Source 1 is always "cool" while Source 2 is always "warm". I've changed the cables and the monitors themselves, as well as the video card, the next step is the Motherboard right? Could the ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 be causing my video card to spit out two vastly different color temperatures?

B. One of the monitors I tested comes up as "Generic NoN-PNP Monitor", It is the exact same model and revision as one of my other monitors. It is an Asus VS2238H. Why would one of these monitors show up as Generic NoN-PNP? Only this monitor has this issue, all other 3 monitors are pulling their ID, once again I've tested all the cords and used different connections via HDMI. I have not tried a DVI cable. (I do know that with DVI cables though the color temperature issue is still there)

C. Nvidia's drivers themselves seem to be causing the shut down issue, maybe I should switch to ATI? I can't get anyone at Nvidia support to talk to me, as they make you go through the manufactures, the video card chipset is Gigabyte and their Customer Service Portal is Garbage.

If someone can figure this issue out for me that doesn't involve me buying another damn video card or motherboard, I might send you $100.

Would buying another GTX 970 fix the issue, one video card per monitor? Why are the color temps only different in the Two position? WHY DO I HAVE TO RESTART MY COMPUTER EVERYTIME MY DISPLAYS FALL ASLEEP UGH!

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALP.

(I'm serious about the reward money).

not sure y u would downgrade to windows 8.1 from 10

does ur motherboard/cpu support onboard video? if so have u tried the monitors separately using just the onboard video? if so are the colours still fucked up?

are the displays fucked up in safe mode?

might be driver problem but u definitely aren't going to avoid driver issues by switching to ATI

my suggestion would b to see if u have the same issues in safe mode and if u do, connect a monitor to onboard video and while in safe mode completely wipe out any trace of ur nvidia drivers and then install fresh ones.

i doubt it's an issue with ur motherboard

also switch back to win 10 plz

I'll have to get a DVI cable later on today to test the safemode / onboard graphics theory. I've blasted my nVidia drivers before with a 3rd party nvidia display remover, then reinstalled fresh completely.

The Color temp issue has been hanging around since Windows 7, I need to reinstall GeForce Experience and see if the crash still happens when the monitor is correctly pulling its ID.

The reason for the downgrade from windows 10 to 8.1 was the 5 minute start up time that GeForce Experience was causing me, though now I think that to be the problem of the second monitor not pulling an ID, I wish I had tried just using a single monitor on Windows 10 and seeing if that was the problem after all.

If not the motherboard then why is the second display having such a hard time projecting the correct color temperature, despite of swapping out Drivers/Cables/Video Cards/Monitors? What else left is there to troubleshoot?

Thanks for the help Allust.

Is it the nvtldr or something or other error? I was experiencing that too with my GeForce GTX 560 Ti. I replaced an ATI card with this (given to me by a friend) which was running fine, but was old and seriously underpowered.

I'm pretty sure its a driver/software error and compatibility problem. I plan on going back to ATI which kind of sucks because more games seem to support nVidia over ATI, but even if ATIs drivers are kind of crappy, I personally think nVidias drivers (and bloatware-like software) are super shitty.

I've temporarily solved it by uninstalling the GeForce Experience application and disabling my aero theme (just using classic) in Win7 (still running 7); made the change last night and so far it seems to be working for me. That said, there's a plethora of possible "fixes" or workarounds to fix the error and none are guaranteed to solve the problem. :-/

No error, system just stops working. So far the solution was to uninstall Geforce Experience. I'm gonna reinstall it and see what happens here.

The color temperature thing is really starting to bug me though, I have no idea why its coming in so vastly different.

Image on the left is more true to normal colors, the image on the right is much warmer. Almost looks orangish.

Going out on a limb, but guessing the two monitors are built differently. I can see they're both Asus monitors. idc

I have a Samsung and Asus at work and as much fiddling as I've done I still can't get the Samsung more cool to match my Asus (I prefer cool over warm).

So it seems my freezing occurred less often after uninstalling GeForce Experience and disabling Aero, but it's not completely gone. Froze up yesterday, BUT, it also recovered too. PC fans were running pretty loud though which surprised me since my case is the same size as Jesse's new one (i.e.: f'ing massive) so there usually isn't much heat in there. It was warm. I've read that the errors can happen if the card gets too hot. Going to try running the PC with the case's side panel off later today or tomorrow.

Realm, the 2nd monitor is just to better show the difference in color temperature, I have the exact monitor on the left as my usual 2nd monitor, it's sitting on the floor next to me. It doesn't pull a monitor ID, so upon waking up from sleep it causes tons of issues. I've been using the bigger one because it does pull ID and aside from the color temp issue it has no problems waking up anymore.

No matter what monitor is in the 2nd slot (I've tested 4) all of them have this orangish hue presiding over them. I've tested multiple Display port to HDMI cables and HDMI cables, waiting to take a DVI cable from work today.

How many monitors are you running on the computer that you had GFE on? If you have 2, are they both pulling Generic PNP monitors or is one pulling Generic Non PNP?

I'm not at the PC at the moment (it's my home PC) but I think it's a Generic PNP monitor, though I do have driver software for it too (also an Asus monitor). You can check Asus' website to see if maybe your monitor has driver software. Might help (big maybe). Also, it's only one monitor at home where I'm having the issues.

If the DVI doesn't help, and drivers don't help, I'd actually think that something with the card was bad. Not knowledgeable enough to know for sure, just a feeling. If you swap the location (1/2 => 2/1) does it still occur on the "2" side?

no matter what it always occurs with whatever monitor is registering as "2" regardless if 1 or 2 is set as my main display. Detty gave me the suggestion of swapping it from bay 1 to bay 2 on the pci-e slots and seeing if that fixes it.

GFE pulled black bars today when I came home from work.

Allust: What's your rig like? I might need to just copy it piece by piece so I can have a working computer again.

How hard is it to set up water cooling in a computer?

not hard but it can be expensive...or not that expensive I guess depending on what you need. the parts for my watercooling setup cost almost...maybe more than my actual pc components.

lots of good instructions and info out there. just get the right components and pay attention when putting everything together and properly leak test it and you'll be fine.
