Hawks in 6
Blues in 5
Ducks in 7
Oilers in 6

Rags in 7
Bruins in 5
Capitals in 5
Pens in 6

Now for a quick fucking word about the seeding. Once again the Metropolitan division as a whole gets hornswoggled. Each division gets 3 automatic berths, so not only is it harder in the Eastern Conference (3/8 teams in each division get in vs. 3/7 each division in the West) but the other three divisions averaged 88-90 pts per team, while the Metro division averaged 97. Given these conditions, the Penguins (once again the team catching the worst break with these seedings) still managed to finish the reg season with 111 points, 2nd most in the NHL. Their reward for this strong performance? Facing the 4th best regular season team in the NHL in the first round. (In a perfectly fair and balanced tournament, they would face the 15th best team, or the 14th best since given perfect balance one of the 2 weakest would be out of conference.)

Columbus themselves deserve a better deal, finishing 4th in the NHL in points and having to face the 2nd best team (they would face 13th best in a fair tournament.) The other side of this is that Boston finished 13th in points and gets to face a team with a negative goal differential on the season. Perhaps most ridiculous is that the Rags receive an easier opponent than PIT/CBJ do by virtue of... finishing behind both of them in the division.

It's actually really improbable that a deserving team doesn't get screwed out of a playoff spot w/ this ridiculous scheme, and although it didn't happen this year (usually does), the problem remains. And I'd bet the Isles feel they'd probly have gotten in if they played in any other division, esp shitty West Conf.

Would be even more egregious if a regulation win were worth 3 points. But we all know modern major sports are more concerned with forcing artificial parity than with creating a properly competitive environment. I only typed like 37.5% of what I wanted to but you wouldn't read it all.

top notch picks, Allust.

hawks in 7
blues in 7

oilers in 6

habs in 5
bruins in 6
Capitals in 4
penguins in 7

The west conf is pretty bad with just 14 teams. The Preds/Flames could have gotten in with just 88 points.

Seeding is so overrated by people anyway, it's not like the 80s where you had sub .500 teams getting in and just being blown out in the 1st round. There's barely any sweeps any more, and way more comebacks from 3-0 & 3-1 series deficits. All the teams getting into the playoff are playing good hockey, all have roster basically even in terms of max cap talent, and then even the bottom seeds usually come in hot, making up for 1st half weak play, there's no freebie series so I really don't understand why people are getting so worked up over this stuff. The playoffs are all about matchups, injury luck, and hot goaltending. Seeding is meaningless.

So I don't have a problem with the division brackets, I like them. I enjoy divisional matches more than any other, I'm more familiar with those teams and familiarity with players and styles makes for a more engaging viewing. From a viewer perspective I'd much prefer to be watching the Canadiens play Boston/Ottawa/Toronto in the first round, much more intense matchup even though I like the Habs chances against the Rangers. Clearly the NHL feels the same way, they see better ticket prices on divisional games, and they are doing that bracket thing on NHL.com, trying to create a familiar one for casual fans to fill out like the NCAA backetball tourney. Re-seeing stuff all the time works against that.

The NHL has too few non-divisional games right now, 2 games per year against the other conference is garbage, all those games are boring as fuck. It should be once per year for the other conf then shift the games to divisional ones.

hawks lost cuz beelze picked em right?

ps refs made blues win, not just the 13-2 pim margin but just small things like letting elliot hold the puck for a lifetime before passing with no freeze, instantly calling play dead if someone breathes near the goal (phantom dislodge), you name it! was like watching a small market nba team lose even though they won by 20 in the world of facts

rangers sloppy lazy defense after G3 and G4 and uninspired offensive series. they are miserable on power plays against canadiens and not much better against Ottawa. nash and staal might have to go? girardi looks old out there.

Ottawa is a fuckin enigma, i kinda expect them to beat the pens in 5 or 6 games and then get swept in the finals.

I would keep Nash, he was the Rags best forward, maybe abit overpaid but still an impact player. Not sure who wants Staal or Girardi although a change of scenery could help them so they might actually be worth picking up on the cheap.

Nashville been carried by goaltending, Rinne playing .951. How long is that going to last? I like the Ducks but very difficult for anyone to overcome that. I think clock strikes midnight, Rinno turns back a pumpkin.

Ducks in 6

Gotta go with the Pens, Ottawa overcame the Rangers with some weird heroics but I can't see that continuing. They just give up too many goals against. Gave up 4 goals or more in 4 of the 6 games against the Rangers and still won! They won't get that kind of loose play from the Pens, who will execute better against them.

^playing it cool now after crapping your pants game 7

When does Rinne turn back into a pumpkin? I think the Pens got better finish than the Ducks did, and will light the lamp. Completely outclass the Preds up front.
