Does anyone have a recommendation for a PC that can also play video games? Price isn't really a factor I can afford top of the line, but I don't want to pay $3k if the $1k is almost as good, but will if the benefits are worthwhile.

I have been away from real gaming for too long to know exactly what I'm looking at so give your old buddy some good advice. Also it appears we need to give crimson some $ to keep this webpage running, so I'll pay for a year once I get enough advice to buy my PC.

Are you looking to build one, or just buy one outright?

I was thinking of buying one pre built, but now that I think about it I could probably build one myself. It is so close to thanksgiving I bet that type of stuff will be on sale soon.

Allustrious is more knowledgeable in this area than I am so I told him you were looking to build. His suggestion was simply to wait until after the new year (for all components). I couldn't get much more out of him. If you'd like me to do a little more research regardless let me know. What size case you looking for?

He continued after I posted...

SlickPony isn't wrong, that's a pretty decent deal these days.

Ended up just buying parts and building my own, here's everything I got. I didn't pay as much as that says, I bought everything with sales on it over the past month, spent $1661 on all PC parts, and $410 for monitor/kb/mouse for $2071 total.

Thanks for nothing btw guys.

Yes I finally built it and I'm highly impressed by it in form and function. It looks amazing, not what I am used to from the last time I had a PC a decade ago. I would show a picture of my setup but unfortunately all the lighting stuff they put on parts these days makes it pretty much impossible for me to take a a picture that would do it any justice with my shitty phone camera, but it looks like a damn work of art to me.

Function-wise it boots up in seconds, installed windows in less than 5 minutes, everything is fast as hell, and I bought one of those VR headsets I've just started to mess around with that I am pretty impressed with so far. I overclocked the CPU and GPU just out of interest, got the CPU up to 5 ghz permanently on all cores stable with a safe voltage without delidding so I got a bit lucky on this chip from what I've read, and the GPU an extra 100 mhz core and 550 mhz memory which isn't nuts, but the card comes OC quite a bit already I believe. The GPU is the only part I bought used because they are outrageous new, but it seems to be performing like it's new. It blows 1440p ultra settings out of the water of course on benchmarks which is the monitor I bought, and I'm sure it would do pretty good on 4k if I had bought one...couldn't bring myself to pay more for a computer monitor than a 4k 65" TV.

Now if I could just buy a time machine and send this 20 years back I might actually take advantage of all these numbers.
